What is "1000 Breaths"

On the last day of the year in 2010 and 2011, a special event called "1000 Breaths" awakened audiences to their own innate power of freedom as well as supported a movement to free the enslaved children trapped into a prostituted lifestyle they do not truly choose.

What started as the 1000 Breaths fundraiser event has become a movement for the freedom of us all. This blog expands now to encompass all the good works being done in the name of "freedom for all" as heard on the "FREEDOM FOR ALL" Internet Radio show.

So, A Prayer....

Tonight, this is my prayer
A prayer for freedom
A prayer to believe that all of us are taken care of
A prayer to see the children brought home again, off the streets
Back to a community, a family that can offer shelter, solace, serenity
A prayer for all of us - our freedom
Freedom from the inner prisons, the slavery we bring upon ourselves
A prayer that we are freed from slights, fights, judgments that scar
A prayer for peace
Peace
Tonight, this is my prayer
For freedom, release, love ... and peace

THE VISION JUST ABOUT REALIZED

The vision for this event came about only 4 months ago, and ever since we have been working hard to make it a success. Registrations are coming in by the hour, two newspaper interviews this week, the 11 minute short educational film is being burned onto DVD right now, etc. It is exciting to see our vision almost here! Since there is only one more day to register, please do so by Thursday, December 30, 6 pm PST if you’d like to attend in person. We will be taking walk ins, but it is by "first-come, first-served" basis, depending on capacity. And don’t forget you can always tune into Blog Talk Radio to listen live no matter where you live. For details on how to register, donate, or tune into the live simulcast: http://www.1000Breaths.com

Freedom for All

Today I was musing over the connection between the two aspects of the 1000 Breaths event - the inner healing for participants, and the fundraiser to help free children from sexual exploitation.

And the key link I found is that concept: freedom.

On December 31, through the "breathwork" process, we all have the opportunity to go within and find the freedom from our own inner prisons, negative thinking, blocks and barriers.

The fundraiser aspect - to help create the short educational film for middle school children (and their parents) - will help prevent youth prostitution and free children from the prisons of exploitation.

Freedom - it is our birthright. We all deserve to be taken care of. We all deserve respect and consideration. We all have the right to connect with a true self. We all can be free to be ourselves and be included in the care of a shared community.

Happy Holidays!

For today's post, I've decided since it's a holiday, to focus on the solution rather than the problem of child sex exploitation. The solution being the gift of awareness, prevention and hope we can give teens and their parents. One of the solutions is the short educational film, "Indoctrinated" to be screened in middle schools across the nation.

Here is a short promo of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfzYVjHtol0

The purpose of the film is:
• To increase awareness of the violence that impacts prostituted and exploited youth and their families
• To present facts and solutions in community forums, middle / high schools, and treatment centers
• To dissuade potential customers or exploiters from soliciting or facilitating prostitution
• To present concrete steps to combat this epidemic that destroys so many lives
• To educate youth and families, and warn them of the recruitment tactics employed by gangs and sex traffickers

Make this cause part of your holiday gift giving. Decide to join us on December 31 as we take part in a healing process - not just for ourselves but for our children.

$10 and a Life Changing Experience

There are a million reasons I can rattle off as to why I feel it is beneficial for you to attend 1000 Breaths, but for today, I am going to share just one that I think is significant. Aside from Jim (who has 20 years experience as a breathwork facilitator), there will be 30 other incredible breathwork facilitators joining him to lead the attendees through the inner peace process on December 31. Where else can you pay $10 and get that kind of life changing experience? The facilitators all together have centuries of experience combined. How exciting for us to have them all support this event and share their gifts with our attendees!

A Holiday Blessing - A Poem of Unity

A Part

by jae

Living in separate worlds, a bunch of mixed up boys and girls
Scattered and fallen like rain - so much confusion, separation and pain
Where to go, where to start - wanting to shift the trend of lifetimes apart...

Apart . . .
Apart - we are a bunch of chaotic e-mails, voice-mails and texts
Apart - we are rolling, rocking maniacs, living in the effects
Apart - we are just workaholics with aching arms and necks

Apart - we honk and scream at each other - from the safety of our car
Apart - we measure and compare religions, procuring the feathers and the tar
Apart - we judge the differences, and set everyone aside ... as near as the farthest star

Apart - we are sad and lonely, so ready to cut off, dislocate, relocate, sever
Apart - we forget that we've danced this separation dance forever
Apart - it's hard to imagine compassion and connection - a lifetime together...

Together . . .
Together - we remember what is real and what is true
Together - we share the scissors, the paper mache, the Elmer's glue
Together - we don't have to question, we just know what to do

Together - we live from the heart, seeing no enemies, no foe
Together - there are no punishments required, no debts that are owed
Together - we drink from the same river and share in the abundant flow

Together - we are brothers and sisters, and one in spirit and in mind
Together - we drop the e-mails, voice-mails and texts behind
Together - we heal the backs, necks, bodies and all that makes us blind

Yes, living in this physical world, all of us - boys and girls
Droplets of rain, striving to be, streaming directly into the one infinite sea
Ready to embrace a brand new start - in a unity of which we've always been a part

"Indoctrinated" Radio Show Today - "Wow" Said One Listener

Today we had a special BlogTalk Internet Radio show with the topic: the indoctrination process for children sexually exploited. Though it ended over 5 hours ago, I am still thinking about it. Dawn and I had Manolo Guillen (from The ACTION Network), Dr. Sami, and Nikki Jo Junker (Of "With More than Purpose") on Scorpion Equinox today. The show was an hour and 6 minutes long (so good, we went over by 6 minutes), and it was so powerful. To hear Dr. Sami and Nikki tell their own stories of indoctrination was heartbreaking. Hearing some of the details of the violence Nikki endured left me speechless. And aside from the personal stories, Manolo provided us with statistics and facts that will astound every listener.

One listener emailed me this after the show: “Wow, I am so moved by your radio show, and the story of Nikki was moving. Her story was so accessible - because she was such a normal kid - and she got sucked into the nightmare experience. I felt compassion and caring about this cause of stopping sex trafficking. Before I heard the story, it didn't really mean that much to me.”

I encourage all of you to listen to today’s episode HERE:
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/scorpion-equinox-/2010/12/22/topic-indoctrinated?&utm_source=remail&utm_medium=listener

Educate yourself about what is going on in the world… what is happening to our children. This is why the short educational film "Indoctrinated" must be made! The fundraising event 1000 Breaths is our way to provide funding for the film's production and dissemination. No matter where you live you can either attend the event, listen in on Internet radio and / or donate to the cause:

Winter Solstice: A Time of Rebirth and Renewal

Today is the Winter Solstice – a time of rebirth and renewal. Many people this time of year focus on creating new beginnings. Tonight Jim will be doing a breathwork event at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego (4190 Front Street San Diego, CA 92103) in honor of the Winter Solstice – and what a perfect way to celebrate! This special Winter Solstice event will help participants connect with their higher self, transform blockages, and open up to a great year and season ahead. Over an hour time period, participants use the power of a conscious connected breath to go into a higher state of awareness and return to a state of inner-peace. If you’d like to attend, the event starts at 6:30 pm. $25 donation, though no one turned away. Contact: mail@firstuusandiego.org or (619) 298-9978.

Blast From the Past - Angela Geary

When you plan a big event that goes world-wide, and reaches a higher purpose of supporting the inner-peace of the people and the freeing of children abused... surprises tend to come about, magic tends to happen.

Long story short: In the early 1990s, as leader of a "Rebirth Team," I worked with Angela Geary, as we brought breathwork to the San Diego community, most notably the Pacific Church of Religious Science. Since then she's gone on to be a minister in Santa Cruz. When I reached out to her as a contact who may know others who could support the 1000 Breaths event, it turned out that she would be in San Diego on that December 31st morning. She will join us all.

It's such a pleasure and honor to be working with her again, and to know of a divine connection that creates surprises, blessings and magic.

A Blessed Sunday

Today I had the opportunity to bring the breathwork process to the Universal Spirit Center, a religious science church in San Diego. I held a group session for members who went extremely deep into their connection to a higher self. One member said it was the most powerful technique he had ever used before.

I also had the chance to give an announcement at the church services about the 1000 Breaths. Trying to get all the great stuff about 1000 Breaths in a 60 second time frame was tough and somewhat stressful, but I did my best.

After the long day and the session was over, I felt some emptiness within, and this reminded me of the very important concept - when you GIVE to others, it's very important you are also open to RECEIVE.

So I went and got a $5 pizza from Little Caesars. ;o)

NOTE: The breathwork experience will be a major part of the event on December 31, as we all breathe into a heightened awareness of our peace and freedom.

A Must See News Story!

KRCA in Sacramento did a story last month about how child sex trafficking is becoming the new slave trade… seriously how can we let this happen? The story states, “Child sex trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry that victimizes as many as 300,000 children in the United States each year.” We have to protect the children - that is why this short educational film must be made and disseminated! Check out the full story here: http://www.kcra.com/news/25676045/detail.html

And please support 1000 Breaths. If you can’t join us in person, donate and listen to the live simulcast online. You can help us make a difference!

Testimonials About Breathwork

I wanted to share with everyone today some wonderful testimonials about the breathwork sessions, just so you can get an idea of how taking one hour to breathe with us on the 31st will benefit YOU!

I've done a lot of different types of healing work over my life, but this was the most amazing and powerful thing I've ever done. It seemed strange at first, and I wondered about the process and the results. I decided to suspend judgment and just flow with it. Immediately, I noticed my breathing was easier (I have had asthma my entire life), and my fears were greatly reduced. The emotional shift that took place was tremendous, and I find myself continually letting go of many of the things that caused stress in my life. - Debbie J.

I was blown away by the experience in the breath-work group session I attended. I released an incredible amount of "stuff" and felt cleansed and lighter. The next day I felt as if a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Interestingly some low chronic back pain I've had for a long time went away and it has stayed away.
- Susan B.

Breath-work with Jim has been amazing. Each time have walked away feeling lighter and freer than before. With his presence, experience and intuition, he creates an environment that is open, inviting, comfortable and safe. - Kim W.

Just had my own breathwork session

With all the breathwork sessions I've been offering, added to the buildup of the hundreds coming in on December 31, I thought it might be a good idea to get my OWN session. The amount of pressure I have experienced coproducing this event (along with the other life stuff) has been tremendous. So a session was just what I needed.

Thanks to Nancy for providing the huge space for me to do the deep breathing process.

  • My face and head and arms vibrating with a high frequency.
  • My memory of a dear departed loved one soothed by the movement of the energy through my mind and heart
  • The realization that all the dark things that people do to people can not hold the power over the love and light that exist at the deepest levels.
Such an experience took me to such a deep sense of peace, and connection with my source.

Man oh man, everyone should give this a go...
It's true - peace is as close as our own breath...

Breath is One of Your Magic Wands

I picked up a book last night to start reading called “12 Magic Wands” by Dr. GG Bolich. The first chapter coincidentally is called “The Magic of Breath." So that all of you can see just how important the breathing part of the 1000 Breaths event is, I wanted to share with you some of the facts Dr. Bolich shares in his book.

Three fundamental lessons:
1. Breath teaches us what it means to be alive.
2. Breath teaches us who we are.
3. Breath teaches us where to find our worth and dignity.

Those are three powerful statements. A few other quotes that really resonated with me from the book:
“Reduced to the basics, every person who lives is nothing more than a collection of breaths.”
“Breath lies at the center of our experiences of life.”
“Our first magic wand reconnects us to our breath which reconnects us in important ways to life itself.”

So by attending 1000 Breaths on December 31 whether in person or via live simulcast, you will not only be helping to fund an important documentary to create awareness and put an end to child sex trafficking… you will also be hugely helping yourself by taking an hour to breathe with us!

Register… make difference in your own life today!

What a GREAT Day!

Today was incredibly productive as I had the pleasure of presenting the documentary and corresponding 1000 Breaths event to the Mira Mesa chapter of Kiwanis, a community service organization. It felt satisfying to bring one solution (awareness) to the issue of child prostitution, as I looked into eyes so engaged and interested in the presentation.

Another development - had a great call with Gabriela G. Baeza of the San Diego County Office of Education. She is championing the vision of having the documentary be shown in middle schools in our SD county. Plans are to have us present the documentary proposal to a forum of school superintendents (or their reps) so decision makers can make the choice to showcase "Indoctrinated" at school assemblies and the like. Huge news. We will have a ready and willing audience.

The 1000 Committee!

Monday nights are our 1000 Breaths Team calls. We have an awesome supportive team in place, all with a different expertise they bring to the table. Aside from the obvious – Jim and myself – our team consists of Dawn O’Creene, Steve Krescanko, Chris Christopher, Arthur McCormack, R. Christian Minson, Jack Rutledge, Eric Louie, and Anabel Barbosa. Dawn is my Scorpion Equinox co-host and she is creative force behind our 1000 Breaths blog. Steve is working on sponsorship and attended a wonderful Rock to Stop Violence event this weekend representing 1000 Breaths. Chris is our idea guy. Art is reaching out to potential registries. Christian is doing outreach to breathwork groups around the world and will be managing the 26 facilitators on the day of the event. Jack is the finance man and might be one of our managers the day of the event as well. Eric has the big role of being our Project Team Manager the day of the event - managing all the moving parts so all goes smoothly. Anabel is working as our Welcoming Manager the day of the event. What a blessing to have a team of awesome people who give so purely of themselves.

The inner and outer

Let's all work together for peace within and harmony with all.

Nikki Jo Junker - A Voice of Hope

Today held great promise, great potential and great hope.
Today, we did some extensive filming for the documentary "Indoctrinated - The Heartbreak and the Healing of our Prostituted Youth" - the purpose for our 1000 Breaths fundraiser.
The lovely, authentic and open Nikki Jo Junker, Executive Director of "With More than Purpose," walked the grounds where she experienced the pain of being manipulated and used in sexual exploitation. We went downtown, Harbor Island and North Park filming her as she narrated painful parts of her life. What a generous young lady - to be willing to be so vulnerable and expressive so that other girls are not hurt in the same way.
Appreciation can not be matched in words.
Her mother also spoke with us in an interview.
It was so touching to see that mother-daughter connection, knowing that this daughter is now safe and secure at home.

NOTE: Nikki Jo Junker will be speaking at the 1000 Breaths event on December 31 at 11 am PST.

Panting for Peace!

Since I had to go out today to finish some holiday shopping, I decided why not multitask and make it a way to get the word out about 1000 Breaths.

Since Hennessy gets attention wherever we go, I made her a jacket with the 1000 Breaths logo on it and wrote “I am panting 4 peace - ask my mom about 1000 Breaths” on it.

Our first stop was the metaphysical bookstore, Open Secret. They had a beautiful holiday tree with magazines, fliers, and other promotional materials all around it. I found a perfect spot under the tree where I laid out about twenty of the 1000 Breaths mini fliers.

Then off to Corte Madera where there are two outdoor dog friendly malls. Hennessy and I did the shopping we needed and were indeed stopped several times a minute regarding 1000 Breaths. My adorable walking billboard worked!!

Our last stop was a European chocolate shop in which Hennessy was not allowed in. Outside the store was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. I asked him if he minded if Hennessy hung outside with him while I went in the store. He said he loves dogs and wouldn’t mind … but he said he first needed to know more about 1000 Breaths. After I told him all about it, he offered to not only keep an eye on Hennessy but also handout fliers for me while I was in the store. He handed out EVERY last flier I had brought with me while I was in the store and said he had so much fun doing it!

The Excitement Continues Every Day!

This Event is Global!

You will be out of town? You don't live in San Diego? GREAAAAT NEWS!!! We need you to register and listen in on Internet radio to help get the 1000 people taking part in this global event.

Every time someone thinks they can't participate because they are "out of town," I cringe. It's because they don’t simply understand that the event will be broadcast live via BlogTalkRadio. Perhaps it is a new concept to some. Football games are simulcast live on TV as are some concerts, award shows, etc. But listening to a live event on internet radio? I think we are paving the way for that trend! Since my friend Dawn and I co-host a popular BlogTalkRadio show called "Scorpion Equinox" we thought in order to reach more people and make this event WORLDWIDE we would simulcast the event on our radio show. The issue of child sex trafficking is so important and an issue that is global, so why not make sure everyone in every country is made aware of the problem, cause, and solution. (BTW, we are working on literally getting someone from EACH country.)
So how about… no matter where you are… register to participate in this historical event! www.life-enlightenment.com/events.html

Wikileaks Reveals U.S. Tax Dollars Fund Child Sex Slavery in Afghanistan

***This is a re-post written by Amanda Kloer. Find article Here.  Please sign petition at the end of article on the original site.

The now infamous Wikileaks recently released a cable from Afghanistan revealing U.S. government contractor DynCorp threw a party for Afghan security recruits featuring trafficked boys as the entertainment. Bacha bazi is the Afghan tradition of "boy play" where young boys are dressed up in women's clothing, forced to dance for leering men, and then sold for sex to the highest bidder. Apparently this is the sort of "entertainment" funded by your tax dollars when DynCorp is in charge of security in Afghanistan.

DynCorp is a government contractor which has been providing training for Afghan security and police forces for several years. Though the company is about as transparent as a lead-coated rock, most reports claim over 95% of their budget comes from U.S. taxpayers. That's the same budget that Dycorp used to pay for a party in Kunduz Province for some Afghan police trainees. The entertainment for the evening was bacha bazi boys, whose pimps were paid so the boys would sing and dance for the recruits and then be raped by them afterward. That's your tax dollars at work -- fighting terrorism and extremism in Afghnistan by trafficking little boys for sex with cops-in-training.

In fact, the evidence linking DynCorp to bacha bazi was so damning, Afghan Minister of the Interior Hanif Atmar tried to quash the story. Upon hearing a journalist was investigating DynCorp and the U.S. government's funding of the sex trafficking of young boys in Afghanistan, Atmar warned any publication of the story would "endanger lives," and requested the U.S. suppress the story. Atmar admitted he had arrested eleven Afghans nationals as "facilitators" of the bacha bazi party. But he was only charging them with "purchasing a service from a child," which is illegal under Sharia law and the civil code. And in this case "services" is not used as a euphemism for sex; so far, no one is being held accountable for the young boys whose rapes were paid for by the U.S. taxpayers.

As if this story couldn't get any more outrageous, Atmar went on to say that if news of the incident got out, he was "worried about the image of foreign mentors". In other words, why should something as piddling as the humiliation, objectification, sale, and rape of some children tarnish the good name of DynCorp and all the work (read: money) they're doing in Afghanistan? After all, bacha bazi is growing in popularity in Afghanistan, especially in areas like Kunduz. Why shouldn't U.S. government contractors be able to win local favor by pimping young boys?

More Awesome Support Coming Our Way!

One of my favorite musicians, Peter Kater, Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling pianist-composer, will be personally donating his music for us to play the day of the event. Peter has received 6 Grammy Award Nominations in the last 7 years, the most recent being "In A Dream" collaboration (2009) with long-time Sting guitarist Dominic Miller. A testimonial that caught my eye on Peter’s website says it perfectly: “Peter Kater has become a nightly staple in our home ... his albums ... capture both romance and peace better than any other instrumentalist I know of.” - Kenny Loggins

An Important Scorpion Equinox Show Not to Miss

Wednesday, December 22 at 2:30 pm PST there will be an important Scorpion Equinox show not to miss. Dawn and I will be joined that day by Manolo Guillen, Dr. Sami, and Nikki Jo Junker (Executive Director of "With More Than Purpose," and 1000 Breaths guest speaker). Manolo will be speaking to us about the overview, statistics, signs of indoctrination and scope of the “Indoctrination” film project, as well as about CSEC (Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children). Dr. Sami, having been a sex industry survivor, wrote her story in SCALDED: The Making and Undoing of an Extremist, and now counsels survivors and families. Nikki, a former prostituted youth, will be sharing her amazing story with us.

Out of Town? GREAT!!!

With all the talk of our "great problem" of figuring out how to manage the overflow once we get more than 400 people registered for the onsite event, we NEED to mention that we still need 600 of you out there who are OUT OF TOWN!

So many folks have shown interest but have stated "but I'm out of town that day."
That could work in all of our favor - if you will be at a location that has Internet Radio.
You can still register, and listen for free if you wish!
Love for you to listen in to the simulcast on BlogTalk Radio.

Jennifer Geronimo reporting live from the Scottish Rite Center, interviewing Karl Anthony, producers, performers, attendees, speakers. Dawn O'Creene in New York hosting remotely.

Listen in as the event unfolds. Feel the electricity in the room. Then listen to a special recording - created just for radio listeners - while the actual breathing exercise takes place.

The Excitement of Watching It All Unfold

Jim and I have been working hard on 1000 Breaths since September. The idea we started emailing each other about in August and then we had our first strategic meeting setting the wheels in motion in September. And to have December be here already, having so many people already registered, and new exciting developments unfolding everyday shows that you can make life happen when:

* You take a risk
* Take a leap of faith
* Align your goals
* And work hard (really hard in our case…. you can normally find us both up work on 1000 Breaths at 4 am on any given day)

I also wanted to let everyone know this blog will be up past December 31, as we’ll keep the world updated on the progress of the documentary, the middle and high schools showing it, and the progress of next year’s event ... since 2010 is merely an inaugural event. The vision is to hold this event every year on New Year's Eve, December 31!

You are in for a quality event!

I just wanted to share a post that I have been privileged to be on the calls with the team behind the scenes to make this event happen. And if there is any indication from the dedication and enthusiasm of the head organizers, Jim Ellis and Jennifer Geronimo, this event is going to blow the roof off the house!

Knowing Jim though our mutual experience as breathwork facilitators, I also know that he is a very caring person, focused on the individual well being of each person who entrusts to his care. When he wanted to offer this program at a donation of just $10, I called him "loco." But I could see in his eyes that he really wanted to make a difference for the afflicted youth, very present in San Diego and all over the world.

To get to experience a session of breathwork for the price of $10, which is ultimately a personal contribution to the fund to curb child prostitution, is a bargain you won't find ANYWHERE else. And the good karma will last a long time afterwards...
